Good News !

Good news on the Netflix home front! Kick Ass is now available to watch on instant. So cozy on up and enjoy! If you enjoy Chloe Moretz performance, you must check out Let Me In. This movie came out in 2010, and yes I'm just getting around to it now. It wasn't really a big block buster, but it does fair well on the horror scale. (Good horror films never do seem to bust blocks do they...) Alas, my father, the toughest movie critic of them all, gave this film an "it was okay" which says a lot for him. I really enjoyed this film, although strange at times. It is an American re-make of the Sweedish film "Let The Right One In". Matt Reeves, director of the American version (and other favorite thrillers of mine like Cloverfield) stayed true to the foreign roots of this film, creating a stunning visual effect. (Everyone knows to trust the Sweedish. They know how to do creepy.) So, if you wan't to see Chloe Moretz as a bad ass 12 year old vampire and drink some blood, check out Let Me In. (and don't forget to watch Kick Ass!)

Movie Mash Up Montage Mania

Going along with the title of movie mash up, I am an absolute sucker of a well made montage that will have me laughing through my nostalgia of favorite actors and movie madness. Here are two of my current favorites. Share them with your friends around your "That 70's Show circle" and have a good laugh.

After a recent Karate Kid marathon, this montage was a treat.

I mentioned Kick Ass last week during "Bad Ass Bitch" week, and wanted to share with you a montage of the excellent Nicholas Cage freaking out.

What is the deal with Hop?

It is no surprise that on any given consumer holiday, American’s are bound to be bombarded with cheap holiday movies. Often, these cinematic gems are used as an escape tactic from unbearable extended family, or as a way to just shut the kids up for 90 minutes. Hardly ever are these holiday family adventures profitable, or “good” works of film in the slightest.

These simple rules of holiday movie production, are exactly why I am left wondering, what is the deal with Hop?

On April 3rd, getting a head start on the Easter Season, the movie Hop was released to 3,579 screens across the country. As of April 17th, the movie has grossed a total of $82,157,605. Considering the movie had a budget of $63,000,000, the fact that they even skimmed the surface of having a profitable run in theatres. I mean, this movie screams “straight to dvd!” If you are fortunate to have not seen this trailer, I will dash your dreams right now.

A short synopsis of this movie, as described by IMDB.com, goes as follows: “E.B., the Easter Bunny's teenage son, heads to Hollywood, determined to become a drummer in a rock 'n' roll band. In LA, he's taken in by Fred after the out-of-work slacker hits E.B. with his car.”

Now, even after the trailer, which alludes to the fact that this small computer animated bunny has romantic and blatently sexual feelings for a human woman, I’m even more curious about their gross and profit.

But really, the most shocking part of all of this is the opening weekend stats. On just the opening weekend the movie grossed $37,543,710. And that was on April 3rd - are people even ready for Easter by then? Not to mention, these stats for an opening weekend completely blew all the other opening films out of the water. Hop made nearly triple of all the movies that came out that weekend, including Limitless, Insidious, Lincoln Lawyer, and Sucker Punch.

As a rule, I don’t usually go to see commercial holiday factory made movies, and with only a 26% on rotten tomatoes (equipped with some nasty reviews) those box office numbers do have me a little curious. So this week I’ll be stock piling up on half priced peeps, and will have a review up for you on next weeks video.

Bad Ass Chicks

As a preview from me to you, here are some of my favorite moments from hit girl that somebody made into this awesome montage. Check eet out.

In Remembrance: Super Bad

Earlier today I found this re cut Super Bad trailer. Even earlier today, I was listening to Earth, Wind & Fire - Shooting Star, and I thought, woah, I miss Super Bad. Do you remember when your last year of high school was defined by this movie? How eloquent the film captured the exact emotion of walking in to a liquor store with your fake i.d? Well I thought this hilarious re cut could remind us all how perfect this movie is. Super Awesome.

Here's the actual extended trailer for those of you who have been living under a rock since 2007 and haven't seen this movie.

Extra Curricular Movie Madness

Here's a little extra curricular movie activity for you all. If you can sit through all ten minutes and fifty one seconds of it, I assure you a good time. If you can name every movie shown, I'll give you the dollar Sacagawea coin thats been sitting on my desk for two weeks. Enjoy.
